The Relationship Of Life Events, Personality Trait And Coping Style Among College Students

Objective:This paper aims to get familiar with the features of coping style of college students, and explore the relationship of life events, Personality trait and Coping Style among college students. On the one hand, it helps students to have a better understanding about themselves and their personality defects so that they build up healthy personality to enhance the ability of coping with types of life events. On the other hand, it provides objective evidence for the mental health education in colleges, thus they can use appropriate methods to conduct the students to improve their psychological qualities.Methods:This thesis used the statistic method of cluster sampling, adopting Coping Style Questionary by Xiao Jihua, Adolescent Self-Rating Life Events Check List by Liu Xianchen, Eysenck Personality Questionary edited by Professor Chen Zhonggeng, and tested 380 students from different departments and grades in Hunan Normal University and Hunan University, which included 323 effective samples (176 male students and 147 female ones).Results:(1) Study stress, castigation, and human relationship were primary life events to college students, which differed in terms of sex, specialty, grade, and homeplace. (2) College students mostly use the coping style of problem-solving, then help-seeking, and they seldom use self-abuse. Their coping style differed in view of sex, specialty, grade, and homeplace. In general, the college students'coping style is mature. (3) In E factor, N factor, P factor, and L factor, there was difference in respect of sex, grade, specialty, and homeplace. (4) Life events had negative or positive correlation with the factors of the coping styles, and of EPQ as well. (5)There was significant correlation between coping style and the three dimensions of EPQ.
