Su Xuelin is an outstanding female professor,scholar and woman writer in the history of Modern Chinese Literature, and she is also known for her characteristic personality. Since leaving the mainland in 1949, she had been living in Taiwan for a long period. The details of living condition and ideological state of her afterlife can be transpired from"Su Xuelin's Anthologies·Diaries Volume"(1948-1996) which is published by Taiwan National Cheng Kung University. Because of frequent move and war, many of the diaries, which were about her earlier life, had been lost or damaged. Consequently we can only find out her earlier life from the literature such as fiction and prose written by herself.From 1931 to 1949, Su Xuelin was working as a teacher in National Wuhan University. A volume of"Su Xueli's diries in the year of 1934"has been treasured by the Special Room of Wuhan University library. In this thesis, the diary is studied and arranged carefully, in order to obtain her original life in 1934, images from life and personality from images. Then combining with her writings, the discussion is made on that how her inditement and acqierement was influenced by the personality. And the final purpose is to provide another possible view to study her writings.The main article is divided into the following three chapters:Chapter 1: Summarize the basic factors of the diaries, including words and form.Chapter 2: Describe Su Xuelin's scholarly life. Her scholarly life mainly included teaching, preparing lectures, reading and writing. As a special lecturer, she was not good at teaching for the lack of teaching experience in National Wuhan University with so many famous scholars. She felt inferior but at the same time she was self-disciplined and self-confident because she was so eager to gain achievements in her academic pursuit. She read a lot of books covering a wide range of subjects and wrote some valuable notes on her reading materials with clear praise and criticism and sharp comments as her literature criticism. From these reading notes we know that she favoured works with grand themes and writers with unique skills, which was reflected in the writing practice. She was very strict, not only with her objects of literature study, but also with herself.Chapter 3: Describe Su Xuelin's emotional life. Avoiding arousing suspicion, she made friends with those common staffs of Wuhan University instead of those renowned professors because of her honest, straightforward, proud and arrogant characteristics. However, she treated her friends (including her animal friends) with frankness, kindness, passion and sincerity. She lived seperatelly with her husband Zhang Baoling for the unhappy marriage, but she still yearned for love. As the mainstay of the big family, she generously provided assistance to these relatives to ensure a better life for them but her private life was full of loneliness and fragility.In conclusion, Su Xuelin was as self-disciplined, self-confident, straightforward, independent, forceful and ambitious as a man. However, she should not get way form the female deposition such as inferiority, self-suspicion, sensitivity, tenderness, loneliness and fragility. All these characteristics mentioned above enabled her to become an rarely outstanding woman in the history of Modern Chinese Literature, who could not only write exquisite and sincere works but also pursue academic studies scrupulously to her heart's content.
