Su Xuelin was a pioneer as a literature critic in modern literature history. In early stage of new-vernacular literature, changes and developments occurred all the time. There were no stable writing style and system for most writers and very limited resource could be found for reference. It was the teething stage for new-vernacular literature. Su Xuelin opened a new page with her unique, insightful literature criticism. But her political stand and cynical personality brought personal tastes and injustice into her criticism which made her lose her objectivity.Oriented on the study of Su Xuelin’s criticism, this article is meant to analyze her criticism feature and multiplicity based on her peculiar life experience and unique personality. In her critics there was aestheticism for integrity, kindness and love which includes the worship and respect for the beauty of nature, the in-depth apperception for the beauty of art and the experience of kindness. As a female critic, Su Xuelin showed rare tolerance compared with contemporaries and her articles displayed female morbidezza and grace like prose. In her articles, conflicts between directness and dispassion appeared even in critics on one writer. Guided by directness she used her own taste as a standard for writers and influenced by her political stand some of her critics are more like a personal attack, which jeopardized original value of her critics. But meanwhile she could be objective and candid with her critics and to maintain her own style from literature, art and theory aspects, which made her critics unique.This article uncovers the true Su Xuelin as a critic through analysis of multiplicity in her criticism.
