The thesis of this dissertation concerns the problem of intersubjectivity, which has been involved with the majority researches and theories of post-modernists and modernists in current western society. On the contrary, the problem of intersubjectivity attracted few attentions in China. It is still misconceived as it used to be by Chinese ideologues. Some of them worried about that the modernity in our country will collapse at the first encounter with too much attention to the post-modernity theory such as the problem of intersubjectivity. Although it is not an unnecessary anxiety, it treats the post-modernity in an unfair way.By comparing the phenomenon in the society and the problems faced by the government of China and the West, it is clearly that in current China, we can not fence with the problems any more from the conflict between the modernity and the post-modernity, especially in the global environment. In some sense, China society is merging the fore-modernity, modernity and post-modernity. The problem we have to face is not only how to set up modernity in our society, but also how to give response to the criticism from the post modernist. Hence, it is make great sense to us to research the problem of intersubjectivity. The intersubjectivity itself has no purpose other than to find a most proper approach to the irreconcilable conflict between the modernity and the post-modernity.Based on the reason mentioned above, the purpose of this dissertation is to describe the history of the theory about intersubjectivity, compare the theory and the reasoning process of Lacan and Habermas. They represent respectively their own theory with totally opposite opinions. Also it is another intention of this dissertation to look for the deep reason of the inconsistency between the theories that used to be influenced by the same theories, in the hope of making the problem of intersubjectivity to be understood at the same time from the microcosmic perspective and from macroscopical perspective. The final attempt of this dissertation is to look for a creative perspective that turns the inconsistency to be consistency in all area.
