With the development of knowledge-based economy , human capital and knowledge accumulation have become the obvious variables in the production of economic system .The entry of WTO and economic globalization enlarge the international communication and cooperation .More and more high-level and high - quality talents are needed . Many industries prefer the compound , application-typed and international employees . So English ability becomes more and more important .While in the vocational English teaching field , there are no appropriate materials and vocational characteristics .It is mainly the compression version of the contents used in universities . The main teaching methods are still teacher - blackboard-textbook-tape-recorder. In this traditional class , English teaching seriously lagged behind the modern teaching technology .So it is high time that we must face the new opportunity and challenge and adopt various methods to improve our English teaching .This paper ,based on the policy of life-long education ,quality education and educational reformation , studies English teaching status and problems in vocational college . It aims to construct the ideal teaching model by comparing the modern and the traditional teaching models and the teaching models in other universities .. In the teaching practice , the author used the modern educational technology and modern teaching theories and chosen the different level subjects (one type is higher vocational college subjects , another type is the five -year consistent system subjects ) to conduct this experiment.
