English reading teaching is a compelling way to improve students’ comprehensive capacity of utilizing English.Through reading activities,students will acquire more English language knowledge and information.With higher requirements for talents’ ability to use English,reading teaching should not be limited to the explanation of knowledge points.Still,it should cultivate students’ thinking quality and realize students’ individualized and all-around development.This paper attempts to apply the multimodal teaching approach to English reading in junior middle school under the background of educational informatization.It uses modern information technology to assist the classroom teaching to improve students’ reading literacy.Based on the multimodal teaching approach,this paper uses information technology in English reading teaching and tries to answer the following three questions:1.What influence does the use of the multimodal teaching approach under educational informatization have on the reading motivation of junior high school students?2.What influence does the use of the multimodal teaching approach under educational informatization have on the reading strategies of junior high school students?3.What influence does the use of the multimodal teaching approach under educational informatization have on the reading scores of junior high school students?This study conducts a 16-week experiment on two classes in Grade 8 of No.29 Middle School in Yingkou,Liaoning Province.There are 52 students within the experimental and control classes individually,and the two classes are comparable levels before the experiment.The study uses three kinds of research tools: interviews,questionnaires,and tests(pre-test and post-test).The control class employs the conventional English teaching mode,whereas the experimental class employs the multimodal teaching approach.The results show that the application of the multimodal teaching approach under educational informatization has a positive influence on junior high school students’ English reading learning.After the experiment,there are apparent differences in reading motivation,reading strategies,and reading scores between the experimental and control classes.The English learning motivation of students in the experimental class is significantly higher than that of the control class,and the English reading strategies and reading scores were also improved.Therefore,the use of the multimodal teaching approach under educational informatization can provide a new method in English reading teaching for junior high schools.
