A Study Of Ba And Jiao Sentences In T.C.Fulton Chinese-English Mandarin Phrase Book (Peking Dialect)

In 1911,English Presbyterian missionary T.C.Fulton came to China 27 years later and wrote a Chinese textbook in Moukden(today’s Shenyang),which recorded Chinese-English Mandarin Phrase Book(Peking Dialect)(we call it Mandarin Phrase simply).The corpus collected in this textbook comes from the author’s real record of spoken Chinese in daily life at that time,which objectively reflects the language characteristics of Beijing dialect and even northern Mandarin at that time.The textbook is not only an important corpus for the study of the historical features and development of Beijing dialect,but also a valuable material for the study of late modern Chinese language phenomenon,which is of great significance to the history of Chinese Linguistics and the development of TCFL.The corpus of Mandarin Phrase is rich,and most of them come from daily life,The main content of this paper is divided into five chapters:The first chapter is the introduction,which includes the research value,research status,research methods,data sources and so on.The second chapter discusses the author T.C.Fulton and his book Mandarin Phrase.The content includes T.C.Fulton’s life,work and life experience in China,as well as the background,version,style and content of the book,as well as the topics involved.The third chapter studies the "Ba" sentence in the Mandarin Phrase,including the meaning classification and characteristics of the "Ba" sentence in the Mandarin phrase.Firstly,the "Ba" sentence in the Mandarin Phrase is divided into "disposal type","treatment type" and "causative type",and then on this basis,the semantic structure characteristics of the "Ba" sentence are compared and analyzed,At last,the paper puts forward the characteristics of Ba sentence in Mandarin phrase.The fourth chapter studies the "Jiao" sentences in Mandarin Phrase,which are classified into "causative" and "passive".Then combining with the characteristics of the examples in Mandarin Phrase,taking the "causative" sentences as an example,the paper puts forward the characteristics of sentence structure in Mandarin Phrase.The fifth chapter from the perspective of teaching Chinese as a foreign language,combined with the "Ba" sentence and "Jiao" sentence in "Mandarin Phrase",summarizes the Enlightenment of its teaching philosophy,textbook arrangement and teaching methods on the compilation of today’s teaching Chinese as a foreign language and teaching Chinese as a foreign language.Finally,the conclusion summarizes the research conclusions and significance of this paper,and puts forward the academic difficulties and questions encountered in the writing process of this paper,and points out the regrets and shortcomings of this paper.
