| Measurement estimation is an active research field since 20th century 70's. Researchers have done massive researches through experiments, observing and so on, and have drawn some conclusions. They have proven that the measurement estimation ability is an universal ability and most of adults have already gained the ability and they have further discussed the factors which affect measurement estimation ability. Researchers also have distinguished several kinds of measurement estimations strategies. What is more, a few researchers conducted some educational intervention researches on measurement estimation ability. But at present, there are still some problems which should be further discussed, including gender difference, development conditions, measurement estimation strategies and so on. In addition, there are few measurement estimation researches in China, especially education intervention on measurement estimation. Thus the aims of the present study is to explore the developmental characteristics of measurement estimation in adolecents and the effect of education intervention. This study includes two sub researches. The first one is to explore the developmental features of measurement estimation in adolecents through a series of measurement estimation tasks. To expore the mesurement estimation strategies, we chose part of participants to carry out an individual interview after the group test. The second research is an educational intervention on measurement estimation with two classes in Grade 1 in a junior middle schlool. After a stage of training lasting 2 months, we tested the students again. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS12.0. The results were as follows:1. The measurement estimation ability in Chinese adolecents is generally low.2. Measurement estimation ability is enhanced in junior middle school stage, but after then it shows a slowly developmental trend.3. Task type and presentation mode showed significant influences on adolecents'performances of measurement estimation. In particular, the estimation performance on length tasks is better than that of area tasks; the estimation performance on geometric figures is better than that of presenting actual objects.4. There is no significant gender difference in Chinese adolecents'performance of measurement estimation. 5. The measurement estimation ability of Junior middle school students can be facilated significantly by an elaborate educational intervention. |
