Affixation is an important means in the process from monosyllable words to bisyllable words in Chinese grammatical rules . Since its quantity is not large , affixes have made great contribution to the formation of many new words during the historical development of Chinese language .In order to provide some available materials and viewpoints , this paper researches into the affix in the medieval Chinese . The paper chooses the typical materials , for example , poems , Chinese poetic genre , quotation , opera , novel . It adopts the means of temporal and last of time, and describes the phenomenon comprehensively .Based on the position , this paper classify the affix into 3 types : prefix , middle affix and suffix . On the other hand , based on the weaken of lexical meaning and function of affix in some structure , it classify affixes into 3 types : pure affix , semi-affix , pre-affix .Based on these definition , this paper researches the medival affixes . These classification benefit the study of the nature of affix .The paper discuss about the historical evolution of some common affixes in Chinese language . The evolution of affixes is an important grammer phenomenon during the development of ancient Chinese language . It is also a difficult and inevitable linguistic point in the process of Chinese grammar study .
