This paper takes the new words in《XinHua New Word Dictionary》(2003 edition)which is published by Commercial Publishing House as its subject. It adopts the method of quantitative analysis, trys to study the word-coinage of the new words created since 1990s.There are three parts in the paper. The first part is an analysis of the word-coinage of the new words. The second part is mainly to study the subjective reasons which are reflected in the word-coinage. The third part is the concluding remarks.The first part is the main body of the paper. It makes a concrete analysis of the definitions, classifications, characteristics, necessity of every word-coinage. We also count the quantity and proportion of the new words which are created by different word-coinage. At the end of this part, the syllable-using circumstances are counted.Which kinds of word-coinage are adopted when creating new words is related to people's subjective reasons. The second part mainly discusses the subjective reasons which are embodied in the word-coinage. People usually like using new, refined, simple words to express their ideas. These reasons influence the word-coinage.The third part summarizes the characters of word-coinage of new words, in order to predict the tendency of future word-coinage. |
