In the dynasties Of Ming and Qing, the development of academy in Nanyang Region presented a special pattern. This paper chooses some representative factors which can show its special geographic environment and regional culture pattern in Nanyang region, uses some first-handed material, such as, biographical chronology, anthology and local chronicle, etc, and studies the academy in Nangyang region totally and comprehensively, to show a true academy in this region. This paper mainly probes into the topic from these eight parts:1. The study history reviewing and the study content, methods of this paper. The author comprehensively surveys the result and train of thought about the study of academy, finds out some shortingcoming in the predecessors' study. In the author's opinion, it is the right study way to find out the fist-handed material and comprehensively study the topic.2. The development of acadyemy in Nangyang region before Ming and Qing dynasties. In the dynasties of Song and Yuan, the development of academy was influented a little by the government. Because of its special geographic condition, the dereloped-economy and large population, etc, the development of academy in Nangyang region was quick. In this period there appeared seven academies in succession.3. The number of academy and its distribution in Nangyang region of Ming and Qing dnastries.There are fifty-four Academies which can be verified in this period. Under the promotion of chifu the name of a kind of official position in old China Duan Jian and Canzheng liu zhang, there appeared two climaes of fouding academy. Most founding and renovating wok were in the periods of Chenghua and Jiajing. The development of academy was flourishing in the periods of Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong of Qing dynasty. In the periods of Shunzhi and Xianfeng , these were no more academy being founded. Totally, in the dynasties of Ming and Qing, there were more academies in hilly land, then flatland, and the mountainious area had the least.3.
