An Investigation To Wang Niansun's Philological Study Of Poetry Scripture

As a great master of Qianjia Academic Clique, Wang Niansun is the thumb of both philology and Confucian scholars. His study of Poetry Scripture is pretty thorough and extencive, and have a great influence to the scholars of his time and the times later. The studies about Wang Niansun are focus on his linguistic and philology study. Few scholars who have researched his philological studies of Poetry Scripture in the academical history are not interested in the study itself; they just pay attention to his concrete result and only to his two books, ie. Jingyishuwen and Jingzhuanshici, and they did not devide the father and son into two parts. Wang Niansun is not yet being attached great importance to the academic history of Poetry Scripture.A wide-ranged study of it is going to help us to sort out the thread of Poetry Scripture academic history and to define Wang Niansun's academic position.This paper is based on five kinds of writings of Gaoyou Wangshi printed by Jiangsu Ancient Books Press from which the valuable maters are found out and induced from five viewpoint, ie.the content, spirit, method, problems and influence of Wang Niansun's study of Poetry Scripture. The content of it includes the preface, the gist, the rhyme, the style, the interpretation of words, the investigation of things, the study of writings, and the scattered content of Sanjia Poetry etc. The methods include internal evidence including characters, sentence structure, rhetoric and external evidence including interpretation of ancient times and the time Wang Niansun lives. Characters have four compositions including graph, pronunciation, semantic and things a sign significanced. Respectively, there are four methods to find out semantic meanings including through collating, pronunciation, logic and things being represented. Wang Niansun had found out some kinds of relationship in a sentence structure, and then he used it to interpret the word in the sentence he wants to interpret.
