Yan Wenliang, a contemporary Chinese painter, theorist and educationalist of art, devoted his whole life into painting and teaching. To improve the development of Chinese contemporary art, he tried hard on many things: holding art exhibitions, operating private art school, etc. He fostered large numbers of painters in China, what's was particularly worth mentioning was that he realized the significance of industrial art as early as 1930s and firstly set up pragmatic art in Su Zhou Art CollegeFor self-improvement and improvement of the education of Su Zhou Art College, he followed the advice from Xu Beihong and went to France for further study. The experiences in France benefited Yan very much, and his skill in oil painting arrived at a new level, especially, in landscape and still life. Now, he can be called a master of art, as well. To better teach students, he sorted out and summarized his teaching notes, referred to the western painting theories and finally wrote two books on art theory Perspective Used in Art, Small Talks on Colors. These two books paid great attribution to the art of new China at the time when the book of art theory was rare. Yan devoted all his attention into presenting the beauty of art, through which he expressed his love for his motherland and nature. He produced Ode to Motherland at the age of 90. His noble personality and serious attitudes toward teaching and research affected his students greatly and he trained many much-achieved students in art field for China. Chinese art insome degree is indebted to this man.
