| Zhang Henshui and Zhang Ailing were very famous writers who wrote lots of popular novels in the 1920s-1940s.They were called"South Zhang and North Zhang",Two zhangs for short.This paper compares novels of two zhangs' to gain something useful to develop the popular literature .Foreword mainly researches two topics.First,nobody has compared novels of Two Zhangs'.Then,Two Zhangs has both been famous popular writers with their"refined and popular"works who both came from Yuanhu party.We should compare them now.First part:Two Zhangs had many same things in literature writing.They both thought that literature should be amusement.They both loved Chinese classical literature very much and studied skills from it.Publicing novels on newspapers or magazines was their powerful weapon to conquer readers. The most fundamental is that they both devoted themselves to improved popular novels to modern novels.Second part:Their novels had differences.Zhang Henshui liked describing the world and the society while Zhang Ailing liked describing people and their psychology.Facing to the people and events,their attituds were different.The women in their novels were different in spirit.And the most fundamental,Zhang Ailing's novels were moderer than Zhang Henshui's.Third part:The results why their novels had these differerces are as follows. Zhang Ailing didn't has happy family while Zhang Henshui had very happy childhood.Zhang Henshui was educated by Chinese civilization while Zhang Ailing was educated both by Chinese civilization and the west world's civilization.The most fundamental,Zhang Henshui didn't has clear philosophy sense while Zhang Ailing had clear modern philosophy sense.
