On Mr. Zhang Henshui And The Construction Of Character Of Modern Popular Literature

We used to enjoy Popular Literature of wishful thinking as a New Literature to read, to study and evaluate New Literature with a theoretical system, by which our research was led to astray for many years. When we sweep aside the mists of history, have every reason to believe: as unique as New Literature (Serious Literature), Popular Literature itself also has its own charactet and differes in degrees and tastes competed with the other. For a long time, the reason why all our attempts to grasp the Popular Literature of its essentials were futile is that we ignored the existence of popular literary character. In fact, Popular Literature and New Literature is the two wings of Chinese literature during May Fourth Period. They are taking two different roads, running two sets of standards. Different from Lu Xun, the representative of the new literary writers, Zhang's each progress every time represents every great advance and leap of Popular Literature in his not to catch up and move closer to New Literature. In the new field of literary studies, we have complete theoretical system while few in in the field of Popular Literature. Due to lack of the necessary theoretical support, we even apply the new theoretical system to study Popular Literature. The reason for the saying Zhang's approach to the New Literature and therefore thought his breakthrough in the creation of New Literature is going closer to the realization of the cross indicates exactly the major shortcomings of criticism in Popular Literature and frustrations of choice. Faced with this situation, this article attempts to research and view Popular Literature with Zhang's works prying into its creation and regulation. Through the research and summarizing of Popular Literature's character, we are trying to explore the character of modern Chinese Popular Literature on the formation process and Zhang's effect and contributions on the construction of modern Chinese Popular Literature character.
