There exists an obviously change in the progress of the literary theory criticism from the middle Ming dynasty to the late Ming dynasty. To oppose the Taige style, Qizi schools try to reform the literary form by the literary movement of "Return to the Ancient". But they plagiarize the writing of Qin—Han and Tang Dynasty and make the literary form rigidify . Gong' an School advocates the "xing—ling" theory and want to unbind the content and form of the literary writing .But this lead to the confusion of the content and form of the literary writing. Qizi schools and Gong' an school reformed the Ming Dynasty literature in the two clues of the form and content, however, they couldn't prevent the classical poem and prose to decline in the Ming Dynasty. The fatal reason is the value system of traditional intellectual collapses in the middle Ming Dynasty and the late Ming Dynasty.The paper consists of five parts.In introduction, it showed the main point of the paper. The traditional intellectual' s value system is the inner motivity of the Classical Chinese literary criticism. The value system of the traditional intellectual collapses in the middle Ming Dynasty and the late Ming Dynasty that leads to the failures of Qizi schools and Gong' an school' s interior reforms of the classical poem and prose.The first part is the analysis of the cultural characters and the value tropism of the traditional intellectual and points out the relationship between the value system and the literary criticism.The second part describes the changes of literary theory criticism from the middle Ming dynasty to the late Ming dynasty and shows the relationship of the changes and the value system of the traditional intellectual.The third part is the cultural interpretation of the changes of literary criticism. It proves that collapse of the traditional intellectual's value system in the middle Ming Dynasty and the late Ming dynasty is the essential factor of the decline of the classic poem and prose.In the concluding remarks, the argument is being repeated.
