The thesis is aimed to establish a macro analysis of the transition of Northeast Asian international system from tradition imperial tributary system to modern treaty system through a systemic perspective. The thesis tries to do some innovations based on the past researches. It is the first innovation to regard the transition of modern Northeast Asian international system as a course that Japan replaced Chinese centre position in traditional Northeast Asian international system and reconstructed the new Northeast Asian international system. It is the second innovation to divide the Northeast Asian international system into different periods according to the influence of Japan on the Northeast Asian international relations.This thesis includes preface and three chapters. The abstract reads as follows:The Preface states the research purposes, relativeresearches status and existing issues and the concept ofinternational system.Chapter One analyzes the Northeast Asian internationalsystem before the Meiji Reformation. The imperial tributarysystem was dominant in the pre-modern times. It is aChina-centered international system based on the specialconcept of "TianXia"and "HuaYi". During Ming & Qing Dynasties,the pattern of tributary relations became the primary patternwhich dealt with the international relations in Northeast Asia.Japan set up the diplomatic system of Shogunate in the period ofTokugawa Shogunate. It is a Japan-centered tributary system.But it is different from imperial tributary system as a challenger.The modern treaty system had the characteristics of extendingbecause it is dual-theories system. Marxism catches it's origin incapitalism. China as center of the imperial tributary system wasforced into the treaty system by the Opium War. Compare withthe numbness of China, the perspective of Japanese NortheastAsian international system was influenced by the Opium War.The concept of HuaYi was abandoned. Japan was forced toopen after Perry's visit. In the course of resolving crisis of nation,the perspective of Japanese Northeast Asian internationalsystem had the characteristics of imperialization. Chapter Two analyzes the course that Japan destroyed theimperial tributary system. After the Meiji Reformation, theJapanese accepted the concept of challenge in pre-moderntimes. At the same time, it accepted the new concept of powerpolitics. The perspective of modern Japanese Northeast Asianinternational system was formed. The main concept of theperspective of modern Japanese Northeast Asian internationalsystem is to destroy the imperial tributary system, and substituteit with Japan-centered modern Northeast Asian internationalsystem. With its guidance, Japan reconstructed Northeast Asianinternational system. The Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895 is achallenge to the imperial tributary system. The imperial tributarysystem was destroyed by the war. Qing Dynasty was no long thecenter of Northeast Asian international system. At the same time,Japan became a member of imperialism game. Chapter Three analyzes the course that Japanreconstructed the Northeast Asian international system throughthe Russio-Japanese war. In the 1880's Russian interest wasshifting from west to east. In 1895 Russian, together withGermany and France, intervened and compelled the Japaneseto restore Liaotung peninsula. Since 1895 it was regardManchuria as a start of aggression in Russian Northeast Asianinternational system. After their victory over China, the Japanesewere faced by the much more powerful Russian, who wereadvancing in southward into Northeast Asia. The compromisebetween Russia and Japan was the only temporary strategy.Japan realized it is implacable with the contradiction betweenRussia and Japan because Russia occupied Port Arthur. In 1900Russia occupied the entire Northeast of China. The incidentimpelled construction of Anglo-Japanese Alliance. TheAnglo-Japanese Alliance was prepared for the Russio-Japanesewar. Through the war, Japan reconstructed the Northeast Asianinternational system.
