Time is one of the universal and important grammatical categories in human language. The whole physical world exists in the certain temporal scope and everything happens in some time. The human being shares the objective temporal system in common, but in different langrage, the system has its own way to express. Korean and Chinese are different kinds of languages, so their ways of expression are different. In Korean time can be expressed not only by the morphological change of the predicate verb, but also by the temporal word, while in Chinese there are only a few morphological changes; it more depends on the word to express the time. Nevertheless, using temporal word is the common ground in Korean and Chinese to express temporal category.This dissertation discusses the temporal words expressing present in Korean and Chinese from synchronic aspect.Processing with the distribution of the temporal words expressing present in Korean and Chinese, this dissertation investigates the syntactic function and the position of the temporal words expressing present, its co-occurrence and the usage with the temporal adverbs. Then it puts the emphasis on the analysis of the similarities and differences of temporal words expressing present in Korean and Chinese. The similarities and differences of these words were reflected from scope of time deixis, the mark of the inception and finish and the selection of the tense. On basis of thesimilarities and differences, this dissertation discusses the correspondence relations of the temporal words expressing present in Korean and Chinese. At last, it discusses the differences of temporal words expressing present in pragmatic.On the basis of the great amount of the corpuses and according to the analysis of the meaning of the word, the description of the sentence pattern and textual theory, taking Korean-Chinese as the main research subject and Chinese-Korean as the accessorial subject, this dissertation investigates the temporal words expressing present in Korean and Chinese systematically. It studies the characters, relative characteristics and mutual correspondence relations of the temporal words in Korean and Chinese from every aspect.
