Mikhail Afanas'evich Bulgakov( 1891-1940) is a prominent Russian writer and playwright, he got a great success in 1920s. After that, none of his works appeared in Russia during his lifetime. People didn't realize his significance until 1966,when "The Master and Margarita" were accepted by public with great enthusiasm. Through the critics gave it different reviews , really anyone enjoys this multi-layered novel. This thesis analyzes the characteristic of its narration and style, reveals the influence of literary tradition on it .The thesis is divided into four parts Part one (Preface), an introduction of Mikhail ·Bulgakov ,the era in his life , summarizes the study of Bulgakov in Russia, west world and china; Part two( Chapter 1 )particularly analyzes the narrative structure of " The Master and Magarita"; Part two(Chapter 1), demonstrates how the novel was written in completely different styles; Part three( Chapter 2) , on the basis of Bakhtin's carnival theory(solemn and banter) , analyzes the type and style characteristic of the novel, discusses the influence of literary tradition on Bolgakov's writing.The author tries to reach a full understanding of the novel by tracing back to the literary tradition.
