Sino-Japanese relations has a long history, but in the Qing Dynasty, China and Japan failed to establish formal diplomatic relations due to various reasons. Under this great historical background, the arrival of the castaways and the handling of the castaways problems became an extremely important issue between China and Japan. Facing of the arrival of castaways, both China and Japan tried to solve the problems in a humanitarian spirit, which opened a prelude of diplomatic relations between the Qing Dynasty and Japan. With a certain system and regulations formed in the process of rescue and repatriate of other castaways, the Sino-Japanese relations had created a definite positive impact. Based on the information relating to castaways including the causes, profiles, and Japanese aid for castaways and repatriation system, and the impact of the castaways problem.This paper includes four parts: 1st, the Sino-Japanese origin of the castaways problem, mainly discussed the historical background of the formation of the castaways problems and the reasons, made a brief review about the late Ming and the handling of the castaways and comparison the way of dealling with castaways with the Qing Dynasty ; 2ed, The Sino-Japanese castaways problems in the Qing Dynasty, mainly introduces the historical record of the refugee problem, and make a summary and analysis based on these historical data for castaways.3rd, The aid and repatriation for castaways, mainly discussed how the handling policy and system gradually constructed and the effects of the analysis to the formal diplomatic relations of the two country.4th, Conclusion, mainly discussed the necessity and importance of the castaways problems.
