Yin Zhiping And His Quanzhen Taoism Ideology

Yin Zhiping (1169-1251),Qing Hezi ,was born in Laizhou, Shandong province .When he was 14 years old ,he met Ma Yu , a famous Quanzhen Taoist,and wanted to become a lay priest. At the age of 19 ,he did obeisance to Liu Chuxuan and realized his dream to be an official Quanzhen Taoist .Years later ,Yin Zhiping visited Qiu Chuji who became his third teacher and gave him lots of methods of practice, under Qiu Chuji's help he made great progresses in practicing. At the same time ,Yin Zhiping obtained knowledges of the Book of Changes from Hao Datong and of the religious doctrine of Taoism from Wang Chuyi,who were both famous taoists of the second generation of Quanzhen Taoist sect. Yin Zhiping constructed the Yu Qing temple in Weiyang and practiced in Weiyang for at least 20 years. At that time,he became one of the most famous Taoists in Shandong. In 1220, he followed Qiu Chuji to get a great meeting with Genghis Khan as one of the 18 followers. In1227, Qiu Chuji passed away. Yin Zhiping took over the leadership of the Quanzhen Taoist sect and became the sixth leader.When he ruled the Quanzhen Taoist sect, Yin Zhiping made Li Zhichang manage the daily businesses, and he went many places day and night to propagandaed the religious doctrine of Quanzhen Taoist sect. Beijing Province for the North, Shanxi and Shanxi Province for the West,and many other Provinces were the places where he had been. He repaired the abandoned temples, promoted his religious doctrine, compiled the Daoist canon, revitalized the cradle of Quanzhen Taoist sect, making Quanzhen Taoist sect blossom to its peak. Yuan dynasty called him"Qinghe Miaodao Guanhua Zhenren"as an award. Soon Yuan dynasty gave him a higher award,"Qinghe Miaodao Guanghua Chongjiao Da Zhenren".In addition to promoting the Quanzhen Taoist sect, such as making the number of Quanzhen mind believers rise sharply, expanding the scale and the number of the Quanzhen temples, YingZhiping also deepened the theory of the Quanzhen taoist sect. YinZhiping's mind was focused in The North Tour Quotations of Qinghe which was compiled by his disciple DuanZhijian. On the basis of inheriting the mind of Three Religions Amalgamated into one, YinZhiping blended three religions together further, and put forward a new term"Ordinary Heart"deriving from the Zen Buddhism. He further absorbed Confucianism and added more positive color to the Quanzhen Taoism ideology.
