Study On Singing Art Of Baritone Liao Changyong

Baritone Liao Changyong, the most talented Chinese singer, is active in the international music stage in recent years, he is also one of the few outstanding Asian singers who are currently active in the world opera stage. Many times, he won awards in the domestic and foreign major vocal competitions. Especially in 1996—1997, he was honored with the first prize respectively during the 41th Toulouscc International Singing Competition, Plácido Domingo World Opera Competition and Norway's Queen Sonja International Vocal Competition.Liao Changyong's voice is rich of tension; his tone is mellow, smooth and rich of texture; his sound range is wide, flexible and has a brilliant theatrical temperament. His art of singing not only inherits strict consistency of Classic Italian bel canto, but also learn the essence of Chinese folk vocality. His singing is unrestrained and unique, rich of the flavor of the times, profound and with connotation.Based on the mastery of the basic elements of singing vocalization, the appropriate scientific singing principles and the principles of traditional Italian bel canto, combined with the years of vocal learning and vocal teaching and research, the author studies the singing art of Liao Changyong in the following aspects. First, the from the Liao Changyong's growth path, the paper analyzes the necessary connection lies between his excellent achievement, the formation of his singing charateristics and his objective experience. Second, from the basis of singing vocalization and his mastery of singing works, this paper performs a detailed study of Liao Changyong's singing features. In the study of his sound basis, this paper discusses Liao Changyong's superb singing skills from the voice characteristics and the basic elements of singing, such as posture, breath, sound, resonance and Articulation as well as the accurate grasp of bel canto, finds the daily problems of students and correspondingly proposes solutions with reference to Liao Changyong's sound basis; in study of Liao Changyong's grasp of singing works, this paper makes a detailed analysis and elaboration respectively in his perfect fusion of Western singing techniques and Chinese singing works, his accurate interpretation of Western opera works and his courage to try the popular works. Finally, this paper makes a brief analyse on the effect of his personal charisma on his singing art.
