The 21st century has seen the arrival of the era of internationalization, which brought forth the importance of foreign language skills. Since ancient times, close neighbors, China and South Korea, have had many exchanges; as both of them belong to Eastern cultural sphere. Over the last 20 years, Chinese has become increasingly critical for Sino-Korea economic exchanges. Thus, Koreans are getting more interested in Chinese culture. As a result, Chinese has become a priority for Korean students who learn a second language. Meanwhile, due to the requirement of the times, people attach much more importance to lifelong education and self-teaching. It is a fact that people are willing to learn Chinese, and have been studying Chinese for a long time. However, elementary Chinese self-teaching materials prepared for students are still insufficient. And the study of those materials still remains in the preliminary stage. This paper is aimed at analysing the learning trend through a survey of students in South Korea and textbook writing principles including appropriateness, science, fun, practicality, and systemicity. In the first part of the study, the paper will research and investigate the current writing and application of Chinese self-teaching materials, mainly in a questionnaire form, in accordance with the requirements of Korean students who teach themselves a foreign language, and the existing level of satisfaction with Chinese primary materials. The second part, will discuss writing principles and standards of primary Chinese self-study materials. The third part, will analyse the materials in accordance with the standards mentioned above. The fourth part, will analyse the inadequacies of the selected materials according to the research results in the third part, and offer new ideas about self-learning materials. The fifth part is mainly about the conclusion.Through the series of surveys, analysis and research above, this paper has made some achievement: The analysis of basic information on Korean students who study elementary Chinese textbooks; breaking-through programs aimed at solving practical problems for self-learners; and valuable information materials based on the study of elementary self-learning materials on Chinese. Those materials are beneficial to future material writing and study as well as students'self study. |
