With economic globalization and China's entry into the World Trade Organization, China's business activities with other countries and regions are becoming more and more robust, which has set higher requirements for people who work in business. They are required to be both professional in their fields of work and proficient in international business communication. As a result, teaching Business Oral English (BOE) has become an important part of English teaching at secondary vocational schools. Considering the nature of Business English and the characteristics of secondary vocational school students, the present thesis is an attempt to propose Research-Oriented Learning to be used in the BOE course, aiming to improve the practical value of the course and engage students in active learning.The thesis consists of the following parts. Firstly, based on a survey of business oral English teaching and learning in Fengxian Secondary Vocational School, the author intends to examine the research and the application of Research-Oriented Learning in English teaching in China. Secondly, through the analysis of the features of Research-Oriented Learning, the author crystallizes the practicability and importance of Research-Oriented Learning in the teaching of business oral English. Then, she conducts an experiment in two classes, analyses the experimental results and discusses the ways to carry out Research-Oriented Learning. Lastly, some suggestions on the teaching of business oral English in vocational schools are put forward with the hope to contribute to the teaching and learning of business oral English.
