Objective:According to clinical reports on the issue of nerve root induced cervical spondylosis, electro-acupuncture and massage techniques are effective treatments. This study was conducted to verify combined electro-acupuncture and "pressing and flicking" Chinese massagae method in treating nerve root type cervical spondylosis'clinical effectiveness.Method:Patients with nerve root cervical spondylosis were randomly divided into three groups; treatment group:(electro-acupuncture combined with "pressing and flicking method") and the control group:(â‘ Group:electro-acupuncture treatment andâ‘¡Group:"pressing and flicking method" treatment group). Each group was given two treatment courses. Results before and after treatment was evaluated with Short Form McGill Pain Questionnaire score (SF-MPQ). Statistics and analysis was done using SPSS statistical software.Results:1. Comparing the three groups subjective feeling of pain rating index (PRI-A) Comparing results subjective pain feeling and rating (PRI-A) in the three groups in this study, using repeated measures analysis of variance, showed statistically significant decreasing intervention curve among the three groups (F= 11.507 P<0.001). Electro-acupuncture combined with "pressing and flicking method" group expressed after treatment a larger decreasment that the two other groups.2. Comparing the total score of pain sensation according to emotional items (PRI-B) between the three groups. This was done using repeated measures analysis of variance (repeated measure ANOVA). Results showed that there was a statistical difference (F= 11.583 P<0.001) between the three groups, comparing the decreasment of their respective curves on this issue. Electro-acupuncture combined with "pressing and flicking method" group decline more than other two groups, and "pressing and flicking method" group dropped less than the other two groups.3. Comparison between the three groups of the total assessed pain rating index score (PRI, subjective pain feeling item+emotion item)This was done using repeated measures analysis of variance (repeated measure ANOVA). Results after comparing the the three groups, showed that there was a statistical difference (F= 17.963 P<0.001) between the three groups, comparing the decreasment of their respective curves on this issue. Electroacupuncture combined with "pressing and flicking method" group decreased more than the other two groups.4. Comparrison between the three groups according to the rated Visual Analog Scale (VAS) assessed data. The pain data assessed with Visual Analog Scale scores from electro-acupuncture combined with "pressing and flicking method" group, electro-acupuncture group and "pressing and flicking method" group, was compared using repeated measures analysis of variance (repeated measure ANOVA). Results showed that among the three groups, curves of pain scores decreased after the intervention, but without statistical significance (F= 1.168 P= 0.143).5. A comparison of the "Present Pain Index" (PPI) between the three groups.A comparison of Present Pain Index (PPI) between the three groups, was done using repeated measures analysis of variance (repeated measure ANOVA). Results showed that among the three groups, the decreased curve of PPI-score after the intervention expressed statistical significance (F= 6.095 P<0.001). Electro-acupuncture combined with "pressing and flicking method" group, showed a better decreasment curve than the two other groups.6. Comparison the three groups treatment efficacy scores.A comparison of the three group's general treatment efficacy scores, was done using repeated measures analysis of variance (repeated measure ANOVA). Results showed a statistically significant difference among the three groups curves decreasement after the intervention (F= 3.396 P= 0.004). This suggests that electro-acupuncture combined with "pressing and flicking method" treatment was superior to other two groups'treatment methods, showing tendency to be more effective than the other two groups. Comparing the scores between electro-acupuncture group and "pressing and flicking method" groups, did not show any differences in efficacy. Conclusion:This study compared the treatment results from electro-acupuncture combined with "pressing and flicking method" group, singular electro-acupuncture and singular "pressing and flicking method" group, in treatment of nerve root type cervical spondylosis. Proving a combined method of electro-acupuncture combined and "pressing and flicking method" to be clinically efficient, and also proviedes a strong basis improved treatment and clinical efficacy. The successful implementation of this study, will promote the application used to greatly improve the nerve root type cervical spondylosis treatment, reduce the treatment cost, which have a certain theoretical value and socio-economic benefits.
