The Research Of The Personality Characteristics And Its Influence On Compliance Of Orthodontic Adults

Objective:Study the personality characteristics of the orthodontic adults, so that doctors could cognitive the psychology of patients and improve communication quality. Study the influence of personality characteristics on compliance of orthodontic adults, so that doctors could take different measures to the patients with different personality characteristics.Method:This research take adult orthodontic patients as object and study personality of orthodontic adults and its influence on compliance.(1) Selects 160 orthodontic adults to participate in the questionnaire survey. Using the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire-Revised, short Scale for Chinese (EPQ-RSC) to evaluate the personality of orthodontic adults. The questionnaire contains four factors: psychoticism, extroverision, neuroticism and lie. Exception the lie factor, the other three factors represent personality characteristics. Because of lie factor rejection 33 invalid questionnaire, surplus effective questionnaire 127. Takes the control group by 20-29 year old of age group in national normal. Compare the personality characteristic between orthodontic adults and control group, and analysis the orthodontic adults' personality characteristics.(2) Selects 73 orthodontic adults which had already completed EPQ-RSC effectively, furthermore of which the treatment time above 6 months and will not finish in the future 4 months for the object of study. Using the clinical compliance evaluation (CCE) form to evaluate patient's compliance. The form contains four parts:oral hygiene, appointment punctuality, appliance maintenance and appliance wear. Because of not all patients wear head cap or elastics, we analysis the first three parts. The form is completed by orthodontists. Appraises 3 times continuously and calculate mean value. Compare the compliance different of different personality.Results:(1) The number of orthodontic adults with middle type Eysenck Personality were the most, accounted for 40-55%.(2) The orthodontic males had significantly lower neuroticism scores than control group (P<0.05).The data indicate that the orthodontic males are emotional stability, easy to heal, usually quiet, very difficult to get angry.(3) The orthodontic females had significantly higher extroversion scores than control group (P<0.05). The data indicate that the orthodontic females are extroverted, sociable, impulsive, responsive and adventurous.(4) Half of the orthodontic adults have good orthodontic compliance.(5) The orthodontic adults with different intro-extroversion personality had significant different compliance on oral hygiene (P<0.05). The oral health of extroverted orthodontic adults is better than introverted and intermediate orthodontic adults.Conclusion:(1) The Eysenck Personality of orthodontic adults is different from ordinary people. The orthodontic males are emotional stability, the orthodontic females are extroverted.(2) The orthodontic adults with different personality characteristics showed a different compliance. The oral health of extroverted orthodontic adults is better than introverted and intermediate orthodontic adults.(3) The orthodontic patients should take personality assessment before treatment. In the treatment doctors should take different measures to different patients with different personality. Doctors should pay attention to the compliance of all patients, special to the oral hygiene of introverted patients and intermediate patients.
