Objective:To determine the relationship between the concentration of Galectin-3 and cardiac functionin patients with chronic heart failure. Methods:To collect the peripheral boold of 40 patients who were suffering from chronic heart failure(10 with coronary heart disease NYHA-II,10 with coronary heart disease NYHA-Ⅲ,10 withdilated cardiomyopathy NYHA-Ⅲ, 10 with rheumatic heart disease NYHA-Ⅲ), and 10 patientswith coronary heart disease but no heart failure, and 10 patients who never suffered from theheart disease as control. The concentration of Galectin-3 is measured by the Galectin-3 ELISEkit.Results:1.The concentration of Galectin-3 in the patients suffering from chronic heart disease washigher than that in the control group(P<0.01). 2. The concentration of Galectin-3 in the patientssuffering from chronic heart disease NYHA-Ⅲwas higher than that in the patients suffering fromchronic heart disease NYHA-II(P=0.001). 3. The expression of Galectin-3 showed no statisticalsignificance in coronary heart disease, rheumatic heart disease and dilated cardiomyopathypatients(P>0.05). 4. The concentration of Galectin-3 was positively correlated with theconcentration of C reactive protein, but had no relationship with the concentration of NT-BNP,neutrophile granulocyte, Lvd and EF.Conclusion:The concentration of Galectin-3 gradually increased as the cardiac function progressivlyworsened in patients with chronic heart failure. The expression of Galectin-3 showed nosignificant difference in coronary heart disease, rheumatic heart disease and dilatedcardiomyopathy patients.
