Objective To learm the changes of galectin-3 expression and cardiac structure and function in kazak and han nationality patients with heart failure(HF),and to investigate the relation of galectin-3 expression with cardiac structure and function between the two ethnic.Methods 198 patients who accepted treatment in Heart and emergency department of the first affiliated hospital of shihezi university school of medicine.Their are 88 Kazak patients with heart failure, 47 male,41 female, age 47~86(63.59±11.82), 70 han patients with heart failure, 39 male,31 female, age 44~89(68.11±10.34). There are also 20 Kazak patients without heart failure, 10 male,10 female, age45~88(62.11±10.12), 20 han patients without heart failure, 11 male,9 female, age 45~83(66.25±10.32).The patients with Heart failure are diagnosised and divided into different classess according to Framingham Heart failure diagnosis standard and New York Heart Association. Serum galcctin-3 were detected. Their cardiac structure and function were evaluated by cardiac color Doppler ultrasound. Using SPSS17.0 statistical software to analyze the results, P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant.Results Significant increases of galectin-3 were detected in the kazak HF patients with NYHA ClassⅠ-Ⅱ,ClassⅢ or Class Ⅳ compared with the han HF patients [(8.51±2.51)vs(7.36±2.82),(11.62±3.03)vs(9.27±3.96),(14.69±3.04)vs(12.06±3.06)ng/ml,P<0.05].The left atrial diameter(LAD) and the left ventricular end-diastolic diameter(LVEDD) of the kazak HF patients were larger than that of the han HF patients [(40.72±5.70) vs(35.23±6.85), 50(47 52) vs(47.91±8.42)mm, P < 0.05],but the left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF) were lower than that of the han HF patients[59(42 63) vs62(51 67)%, P < 0.05].Galectin-3 in the Kazak HF patients and the han HF patients was positively correlated with LAD and LVEDD,but it was negatively correlated with LVEF, and it was more relevant with the Kazak HF patients[(r1=0.31, P<0.01) vs(r2=0.25, P<0.05),(r3=0.36, P<0.01) vs(r4=0.34, P<0.01),(r5=-0.407, P<0.01) vs(r6=-0.285, P<0.05)].Conclusion(1)Galectin-3 of the two national rised when heart failure happened, galectin-3 can be used for early heart failure diagnosis.(2)The expression levelof galectin-3 increased with the rising of NYHA heart function classification in both kazak and han patients with heart failure. The expression levelof galectin-3 can rise with the heart failure becoming worse. galectin-3 can be used to assess the severity of heart failure condition.(3) There are no obvious different of the level of galectin-3 in both of han and kazak patients without heart failure,but Kazak NYHA Ⅰ~ Ⅱ, Ⅲ, Ⅳ galectin-3 higher than the han patients. galectin-3 can be used with the same national condition assessment of the severity of heart failure, can not for other national.(4) LAD and LVEDD of kazak patients with heart failure is higher and the LVEF is lower than han heart failure patients at the same level. The change of heart of kazak patients with heart failure is more serious than han patients with heart failure. The correlation analysis showed that both kazak and han nationality, Galectin 3 are positively related to the LAD, LVEDD, and negative correlation with LVEF. The correlation of between galectin-3 and LAD, LVEDD, LVEF of kazak patients is higher.It means that galectin-3 of kazak heart failure patients more accurate assessment of the severity of cardiac remodeling.
