ObjectiveTo investigate the prevalence of gastroschisis in Chinese perinatal infants and its secular trends during 1996-2007,explore related factors about Prevalence and mortality of gastroschisis.MethodsData on perinatal infants was collected at surveillance hospital in Chinese Birth Defects Monitoring Network from 1996 to 2007 ,the monitored subjects were infants born on the 28th gestational week or later, including live births and stillbirths. the maximal time for the diagnosis of a congenital malformation was the 7th day after birth. The trends of prevalence and mortality was carried out byχ2 trends test; the related factors about Prevalence and mortality of gastroschisis in perinatal infants was carried out by Poisson regression model and logistic regression model respectively.ResultsA total of 6308594 perinatal infants were monitoried during 1996-2007,included 1601 infants of gastroschisis, making an prevalence of 2.54 per 10,000 births, The overall prevalence of gastroschisis in China did not change remarkably during resent time. The prevalences of gastroschisis were significantly different between urban and rural areas, between male births and female births, and among different maternal age groups. The prevalence of gastroschisis was lower in urban area than in rural area (OR=0.58) and was lower in female fetuses than in male fetuses (OR=0.0.76), also, it was highest in the <20 age group ,which was 11.43 times the prevalence of 30-34 age group (OR=11.43). The overall prevalence of gastroschisis in China was 2.54 per 10,000 births during 1996-2007. Except for the prevalence of gastroschisis significantly increased among infants whose mothers were 20-24 years old (P=0.0498 for linear chi-square test, P=0.0032 for Poisson regression model analysis), no significant changes were found in the overall and remaining feature-specific prevalence. The total mortality of gastroschisis had decreased trends , and there is no significant difference between different sex and residence. Maternal education level and whether alone malformations these two factors were enter into logistic regression equation(OR=0.720,OR=1.548).Conclusion1.The overall prevalence of gastroschisis in China did not change remarkably during 1996-2007, the prevalence of gastroschisis was a litter high in China, and was significant different by sex, regions and maternal age groups. Mothers aged younger than 20 years old is a significant risk factor for gastroschisis occurrence. 2. Perinatal sex, maternal place of residence and age are related factors of gastroschisis.3. The overall mortality of gastroschisis in China decreased during 1996-2007, Low maternal education is a risk factor , and Single malformation is a protective factor .
