ObjectivesTo investigate the relationship between functional dyspepsia and mast cell, Helicobacter pylori infection .Methods36 Patients with functional dyspepsia, diagnosed according to Romeâ…¢Criteria, and 27 healthy controls were enrolled in this study. Comparing the variables between the two groups, including the number of gastric mucosal mast cells and the helicobacter pylori infection rate.ResultsThe results showed that the number of mast cells in functional dyspepsia patients was significantly greater than that in healthy controls(P<0.01).Around all the members of this study, the number of mast cells in H.pylori-positive patients was significantly higher than that in H.pylori-negative patients(P<0.01).The number of mast cells was higher in functional dyspepsia patients accompanied by H.pylori-positive than those in functional dyspepsia patients accompanied by H.pylori-negative.The H.pylori infection rate in functional dyspepsia patients was higher than that in healthy controls.Conclusions1. The number of gastric mucosal mast cells in patients with functional dyspepsia was significantly greater than that in healthy controls(P<0.01).The result showed that mast cell may be involved in the pathogenesis of functional dyspepsia.2. The increasing of gastric mucosal mast cells may occur after an onset of H.pylori infection, and that might lead to an occurrence of the symptom of FD.3. The results in this study showed that the H.pylori infection rate in functional dyspepsia patients was higher than that in healthy controls.
