Objective:To select the ideal treatment of osteoporotic distal radius fractures,by observing the pros and cons of osteoporotic distal radius fractures with surgical treatment and non-surgical treatment and comparing the different effects on facture healing with osteoporotic drugs or without it.Methods:To select patients (120 cases ranging from 65 to 84) of primary osteoporosis and complicated by the distal radius fractures as research objects (average age:73.85±5.31),who were randomly divided into 3 groups,40 cases for each group.Group A:patients (14male,26 female); Group B:patients (18male,22female); Group C:patients (15male,25female).In group A, patients were treated with manipulative reduction and splint or plaster external fixation. In group B, patients were performed by open reduction and internal compression steel screw fixation. In group C, patients were also used by manipulative reduction and external splint or plaster fixation. In group A and B, patients were both given osteoporotic drugs:Elcatonin 20u/ampoule,1ampoule/ week, i.m.; Caltrate D 600mg/tablet,1 tablet/day, p.o.; Alfacalcidol Soft Capsule (Aosikang) 0.25μg/capsule,2capsules/day, p.o.. In group C, patients were not given the osteoporotic drugs. After 8,10,12, and14w of treatment, we took the X-ray fluoroscopy of the patients'wrist to inspect the fracture healing. Results:The X-ray showed that group A were healed basically after 8 weeks, (fracture line blurred, and there were large amounts of callus formation), and they were completely healed after 10 weeks treatment. (Fracture line disappeared, and through fracture there were trabecular bones);Group B were healed basically in postoperative 10 weeks, and healed completely in postoperative 12 weeks. For group C, they were healed basically after 12 weeks, and then their fractures were totally cured 2 weeks later. It means that the time of group A was 2 weeks earlier than group B and was 4 weeks ahead of group C.Conclusion:In treatment of osteoporotic distal radius fractures, it should be the preferred method to use non-surgical therapy. patients must be given osteoporotic drugs at the same time..
