Object : To observe and analysis the effects of treatment of rabbit knee osteoarthritis with medical ozone of different concentrations combined with sodium hyaluronate. Methods:In 24 rabbit models of Papain-induced osteoarthritis, the effects of intra-articular medical ozone combined with sodium hyaluronate were evaluated. After intra-articular papain injection, these New Zealand white rabbits (n=24) were divided into 4 groups randomly. All of rabbits received intra-articular 4% papain injections for 1,4,7 day with the right knee for modeling. Group CG(Control Group) were taken Pathological specimens witnout treatment. Group A(20μg/ml) rabbits received 20μg/ml medical ozone injections, GrouP B(30μg/ml) rabbits received 30μg/ml medical ,Group C(40μg/ml) rabbits received 40μg/ml medical ozone injections for 3 weeks. These injections were initiated 1 weeks after Papain injections. The rabbits of Group A,Group B and Group C received sodium hyaluronate injections , initiated 1 weeks after the last medical ozone injections . The measurement of range of motion and circumference of knee joint were observed for 8 weeks after Papain injections. Macroscopic and histopathological knee joint findings were also evaluated at the end of 8 weeks after papain injections. The changes of articular cartilage were observed by transmission electron microscope.Result :Compared with the Group A(20μg/ml) after the second medical ozone injection , the The measurement of range of motion and circumference ozone injection , the The measurement of range of motion and circumference of knee joint of Group B(30μg/ml) and Group C(40μg/ml) were better than Group A(20μg/ml).The damage of cartilage of Group B were alleviated, the scores of Mankin`s were lower than Group A(20μg/ml) and Group C(40μg/ml). The cartilage cells of Group C(40μg/ml) were damaged seriously. The result of articular cartilage through the electron microscope showed that the cartilage damage reduces after the intra-articular injection of medical ozone of Group B , better than intra-articular injection of medical ozone of Group A and Group C.Conclusion: The concentration of medical ozone of 30μg/ml in treatment of rabbit knee osteoarthritis can reduce the severity of pathological changes of articular cartilage and achieve the best effect.
