With the deepening of health care reform, increasing competition of hospitals and the change of nursing model in china, how to cultivate and select nurses serving the needs of the society has become a very important issue. The purpose of this study is to explore the constituent essentials of core competency of registered nurse and develop a competency framework which provide a scientific and objective evaluation tool for both nursing school and hospital.The study relies mainly on probing into domestic and international relevant researches, and gather together the whole experts'view to be the foundation of studying. According to the above-mentioned article to make the questionnaire, it carries on questionnaire survey, and analyses with Analytic Hierarchy Process weight. Finally, it finishes building and constructing'the weight system of the essentials of core competency of registered nurse'.Based on AHP, the outcomes of the study are as follows:The first level consisted 4 essentials, from the most important one, as ability(0.288), skil(0.284), knowledge (0.239), and personal traits(0.189).The second level consisted 11 essentials which the most important 3 ones as professional knowledge (0.16969), professional skill (0.13802), professional attitude (0.10621). The third level consisted 28 essentials which the most important 5 ones as nursing knowledge (0.09485), medical knowledge (0.07483), nursing practice (0.07315), nursing operation (0.06487), professional identity (0.06075).Moreover, according to the results of the AHP, the expectation of the character by registered nurse the nursing department and the doctors were not completely consistent. The core competency such as in personal traits, professional knowledge and interpersonal skill were expected differently by the nursing department and the doctors. Therefore, in the choosing and application of the registered nurse, communication between the nursing department and the doctors for a common character expectation should be obtained before decision.
