Abstract: Objective: Constipation is one of common adverse reactions among cancer patients during chemotherapy; constipation decreases quality of life of patients and affects the compliance of patients with chemotherapy. In order to prevent and treat the adverse reaction of constipation, according to long-term clinical practice, we have drafted a prescription"Bianbitong"on the basis of Zhizi Dahuang Decoction. The purpose of this study is through clinical observation, to research exploringly the effectiveness and safety of"Bianbitong"in prevention and treatment constipation of cancer patients during chemotherapy, and to evaluate its impact on nausea, vomiting, appetite, and to provide clinical evidence for further research. Methods:(1) draft a prescription"Bianbitong"on the basis of Zhizi Dahuang Decoction, to achieve the purpose of prevention and treatment constipation of cancer patients during chemotherapy, according to Chinese medicine theory, analyze the etiology and pathogenesis of constipation of cancer patients during chemotherapy, in the light of the rule of the " recuperating spleen and stomach, promoting the circulation of qi to purge"."Bianbitong"is composed of rhubarb, Fructus Aurantii Immaturus, Poria, atractylodes, costus root, and amomum. (2) 22 cases were selected randomly from cancer patients in the oncology department of the Affiliated Hospital of Luzhou Medical College and the oncology department of the Hospital (T.C.M.) Affiliated to Luzhou Medical College. Using self-pairing of experimental design method 22 cases are numbered as 1-22 numbers, according to the time of the cases into the study, odd numbers points to the group AB a double number points to the group BA. group AB used"Bianbitong"during the first cycle of chemotherapy(A).In the first day to seventh day of chemotherapy, observe and record in detail the daily stool frequency, stool texture, with or without abdominal pain and distention, with or without bowel problems, poor stool, nausea and vomiting, and appetite (see Appendix observed table). Not use"Bianbitong"during the second cycle of chemotherapy(B) ,in the first day to seventh day of chemotherapy, observe and record in detail the daily stool frequency, stool texture, with or without abdominal pain and distention, with or without bowel problems, poor stool, nausea and vomiting, and appetite (see Appendix observed table). Group BA is opposite to group AB, during the first cycle of chemotherapy not use"Bianbitong"(B). In the first day to seventh day of chemotherapy, observe and record in detail the daily stool frequency, stool texture, with or without abdominal pain and distention, with or without bowel problems, poor stool, nausea and vomiting, and appetite (see Appendix observed table). Use"Bianbitong"during the second cycle of chemotherapy(A),in the first day to seventh day of chemotherapy, observe and record in detail the daily stool frequency, stool texture, with or without abdominal pain and distention, with or without bowel problems, poor stool, nausea and vomiting, and appetite (see Appendix observed table). Finally arrange the observed data, through statistical analysis, get the clinical efficacy and safety Constipation in cancer prevention and treatment of constipation in patients with chemotherapy, and evaluate its impact on nausea, vomiting, appetite. Results: Ultimately we get 20 effective cases.(1) All 20 cases during chemotherapy without"Bianbitong"(B), the incidence of constipation was 95%, of which the incidence of constipation 0 degrees is 1 / 20, I degree is the 3 / 20, II degree is 4 / 20, III degree is 4 / 20, IV degree is 8 / 20. When the 20 cases studied during chemotherapy with"Bianbitong"(A), the incidence of constipation was 40%, of which the incidence of constipation 0 degrees is 12/20, I degree is 4 / 20, II degree for 2 / 20, III degree is 2 / 20, IV degree is 0 / 20. During chemotherapy with"Bianbitong"(A) and during chemotherapy without"Bianbitong"(B), the incidence of constipation is statistically significantly difference (P <0.05). It can be seen that the incidence of constipation of group A is lighter compared with group B. (2) Difference of nausea, vomiting and appetite of the group A and group B was not statistically significantly difference (P> 0.05), except for nausea in the third day and appetite in the fifth day. (3)We have not found obvious adverse reactions (such as diarrhea, etc.) during using"Bianbitong"in the study. Conclusion: The results show through Clinical observation and statistics,"Bianbitong"in prevention and treatment of constipation in cancer patients with chemotherapy has effect, and no obvious adverse reactions (such as diarrhea), and thus worthy of further study and spread. But"Bianbitong"has no significant improvement in appetite, nausea and vomiting.
