Objective To evaluate the correlation between adenoid hypertrophy and middle ear eustachian tube function in children. Methods 98 patients were selected from ENT ward, heji hospital and peace hospital, changzhi medical colleage. All of them were diagnosed as adenoid hypertrophy by lateral X ray plainfilm from October 2008 to 2011 February. We chose 30 normal children after the clinical examination as control group. In accordance with the degree of adenoid hypertrophy, they were divided into three groups:the normal, the group of middle-grade and the group of pathological hypertrophy. And they were given conventional otoscopy inspection, pure tone audiometry, the acoustic-testing and electronic nasopharyngeal examination. To record relevant data for statistical analysis.Adenoid hypertrophy group were reviewed otoscopy inspection, pure tone audiometry, the acoustic-testing and electronic nasopharyngeal examination after six months of adenoidectomy. To compare postoperative data with preoperative data for statistical analysis. Type C tympanogram of negative pressure exceed -200daPa and all type B tympanogram who were diagnosed as merging secretory otitis media, Type C tympanogram of negative pressure without exceed-200daPa and all type A tympanogram who were not diagnosed as merging secretory otitis media. Then we analyze the relevance between the degree of adenoidal hypertrophy and the incidence rate of secretory otitis media. Results In otoscopy inspection, pure tone audiometry, the acoustic-testing and electronic nasopharyngeal examination, there were significant differences between the three groups(P<0.05), there were also significant differences between postoperative group and preoperative group(P<0.05). There were significant differences in the incidence rate of secretory otitis media between the three groups (P<0.05).Conclusion 1. Adenoid hypertrophy in children can cause middle ear eustachian tube dysfunction.2. Adenoid volume is larger, the higher incidence of secretory otitis media.3. Adenoidectomy can improve the middle ear eustachian tube function, benefit to treat secretry otitis media in children.
