Background:With an incidence of 69.9%, DGP is one of the most commonly seen complications of diabetes. The pathogenesis remains unknown. Western medical doctors mainly use gastric prokinetic drugs to treat DGP, which have lots of side effects; so after western medical treatment the recurrence rate is high. In recent years, acupuncture had been proved to be effective in improving the gastric motility and promoting gastric emptying. Objective:A prospective randomized study on the effects of electro acupuncture on promoting the gastric motility in patients with DGP was done, and the clinical effects of this therapy were observed. We are trying to find the secretion of gastrointestinal hormones, promote the gastric emptying and relieve symptoms. In this way we can control the Blood Glucose Level more effectively and decrease the incidence of serious complications.Methods:60 eligible patients with DGP were divided into two groups randomly: group I, the treatment group and group II, the control group. We treated group Iwith antihyperglycemic drugs and electro acupuncture. Since the first day of treatment we started to use electro acupuncture. Sonce the first day of treatment we started to use electro acupuncture. Points we chose were RN12 ST36 ST21 ST37. The electro acupuncture frequency is 2/100HZ and the intensity is the maximum of each patient's intolerance. Each treatment lasted for 20 minutes, once per day. Every five treatments make a course. Each course was followed by two days interval. There are two courses all together. The control group was treated with mosapride,5mg tid. It was taken by oral about 15 to 30 minutes after meal. Two weeks make a course. Before and after giving treatment, we separately evaluate the patients'condition by degrading the fullness syndrome and the gadtrointestinal symptoms and fasting blood glucose level. All the data were collected in a database and were analyzed by SPSS 13.0 software. Results:before treatment, there are no significant differences in the grads of fullness, gastrointestinal symptoms including the degree and duration of gastric distention, stomachache, belching, disorder of diet and stools. The fasting blood glucose level also has no significant difference (P>0.05). After treatment, the grade of fullness, gastrointestinal symptoms all decreased (P>0.01, P>0.05). The improvement of the treatment group is prior to the control group. The fasting blood glucose level all declined. There is no significant difference in the declination between the two groups but the improvement of the GAS level of the treatment group is prior to the control group. The difference between the treatment degrees of the two groups has statistic meaning according to the analysis result of Ridit. P<0.05. The treatment group has better effects than the control group. The effective rate of the treatment group and the control group are 87.6% and 66.67% which shows no statistic meaning according to x2.Conclusion:1. Both electro acupuncture and mosapride can obviously relieve DGP symptoms like fullness and gastrointestinal symptoms but the improvement of the treatment group is greater than the control group.2. Both electro acupuncture and mosapride have good curable effects on GDP wile the treatment degree of the treatment group is higher than the control group.3. Both electro acupuncture and mosapride can decrease the fasting blood glucose level more or less through improving the gastricdysmotility.
