Objective:To observe the clinical curative effect on treating depression and the impact on the quality of life with embeding thread into back-shu points, it has important and practical significance in exploring a new therapeutic method clinically which is safe, easy to be operated and definite effect.Methods:Randomized and controlled method was applied in this research.60 depression patients were randomly divided into treatment group and control group. In treatment group, embeding thread into back-shu points was applicable to the 31 patients. Xinshu and ganshu were selected as the main points, with modification according to syndrome differentiation. For example, we chose jueyinshu to treat patients of liver-qi stagnant type, selected pishu to treat patients of defitiency of heart and spleen type and used shenshu treat patients of defitiency of liver and kidney type. All of that were done once every two weeks and lasted 8 weeks. In control group, electroacupuncture with the same acupoints as the treatment group was applicable to the 29 patients, using sparse wave with frequency 5Hz and condense wave with the frequency 100Hz for 30 minites, all of that were done every other day,3 times a week and lasted 8 weeks. Patiens of the two groups were assessed by using HAMD (17 terms), Self-rating Depression Scale(SDS), TCM Rating Scale, Rhone-Poulenc sleep score and World Health organization Quality of Life-Brief (WHOQOL-BREF) before treatment and 8 weeks after treatment.Result:Comparison of self-portrait:in treatment group, significant improvements occurred 8 weeks after treatment in HAMD, SDS, TCM Rating Scale, and G1, G4, physiological, psychological, and environmental sides of WHOQOL-BREF, which had statistical and significant difference compared to those before treatment(p<0.05). Horizontal comparison of the two groups:the difference between the two groups after treatment had statistical significance, according to scores of HAMD(17 terms), SDS, TCM Rating Scale, Rhone-Poulenc sleep score and psychological sides of WHOQOL-BREF(p<0.05). There were more positive effects on depression patients in the treatment group, compared to the control group, either evaluated by HAMD, SDS, TCM Rating Scale or Rhone-Poulenc sleep score (P<0.05).Conclusion:Embeding thread into back-shu points theropeutic method had positive effects on depression patients, and improved the quality of life by changing psychological condition. And the curative effect was superior to the control group.
