Objective:To investigate the incidence features and pathological characteristics and operation methods of colorectal cancer in recent 6 years by analysis of inpatients in Liaoing Tumor Hospital from 2000-2005.Methods:Statistical analysis on all surgical cases from 2000-2005.Results:Results showed that 4808 surgical cases with colorectal cancer were admitted during 6 years. The numbers of inpatients were increasing year by year, which consisted of 2566 males and 2242 females with ratio as 1.14/1.0 (M : F), without obvious change in recent 6 years. The high-risk age range for colorectal cancer was 41-70years(making up 91.74%of the total patients),and the median age of incidence rose from 57.5 to 60.5 years old. The rectum still remain the most frequently involved site(64.05%),but colonic cancer(35.95%)tended to increase, especially the right colonic cancer(17.37%). Most histological classification referred to adenocarcinoma (90.68%),the second is mucus adenocarcinoma with 8.34%. Analysing operation methods, the cases of rectum anterior resection are more than Miles in recent 6 years. Due to the invention of anastomosis and development of operative technique, the indication of sphincter-saving resection(SSR) developed, which satisfied more patients with middle-lower rectal cancers. Conclusion:The research suggested that the incidence of colorectal cancer increased year by year. The composition ratio of gender didn't change. The age of incidence tended to older, meanwhile the cases (≤30 years old) were fewer. Involved site tended to near colon. Most cases ware histologically as adenocarcinoma. The ratio of sphincter-saving resection enhanced. It is very important to strengthen the knowledge of prevention and clinical characteristic of colorectal cancer. Early detection and early diagnosis and early treatment should be paid great attention to improve survival rate and quality of life of patients with CRC.
