ObjectiveTo evaluate the curative effect of catgut implantation at acupoint on primary dysmenorrhea (qi stagnation and blood stasis) and its dominance. And to extend the clinical application of catgut implantation at acupoint on primary dysmenorrhea.MethodsSixty-one case of primary dysmenorrhea (qi stagnation and blood stasis) were chosen, and divided randomly into catgut implantation at acupoint group(n=31, treated with catgut implantation at acupoint in premenstrual phase, intermenstruum and postmenstrua, three to fore times is a course.) and acupuncture group (n=30, tresated with acupuncture seven to ten days before the menstrual period, once every other day, until the menstrual onset). All of them were treated for three months and followed up after the treatment for three months. The integral of dysmenorrhea main symptoms, the score of VAS, and the seven Chinese Medical symptoms were compared between the tow group, before and after every course of treatment. The short-term and long-term curative effect was observed. The measurement data was analyzed by t test, and the enumeration data was analyzed by chi-square test.Resultsâ‘ Both the catgut implantation at acupoint and acupuncture had remarkable effect on primary dymenorrhea (qi stagnation and blood stasis), with low relapse rate. After every course of treatment, all the integral of dysmenorrhea main symptoms, the score of VAS, and the seven Chinese Medical symptoms had no statistical difference(P>0.05). It showed that catgut implantation at acupoint resembled acupuncture in short-term and long-term curative effect on primary dysmenorrhea.â‘¡The heal rate of different degrees of primary dysmenorrhea was different. Both the catgut implantation at acupoint and acupuncture had positive effect on the mild and midrange degree of primary dysmenorrhea.â‘¢Both the catgut implantation at acupoint and acupuncture could improve the Chinese Medical symptoms, such as the pulse tracings, the amount of blood clot, etc. It indicated that the catgut implantation at acupoint and acupuncture could improve the body constitution of qi stagnation and blood stasis, except for relieving pain.ConclusionsBoth the catgut implantation at acupoint and acupuncture has definite curative effect on primary dysmenorrhea (qi stagnation and blood stasis). However, it is more convenient to do the catgut implantation at acupoint. It can save time and had no side effect. All these merits make it more popular and acceptable. It is valuable to study and extend the application of the catgut implantation at acupoint.
