Objective To investigate the relationship between pre-morbid personality and life evens and post-stroke depression (PSD) prevalence, and explore the risk factors and protective factors of PSD.Methods 29 inpatients with post-stroke depression (case group) and 32 inpatients with subacute stroke (control group) underwent eysenck personality questionnaire(EPQ) and life experiences survey(LES). Their clinical data were recorded. All data were carried on F-test, t-test, chi-square test, H-test, correlation test and regression test. Results N values of male and female in case group were more than those in control group(p<0.05), while E values were reversed(p<0.05). A significant increase of N values were found in case group (partial regression coefficient > zero, odds ratio=1.693), while a decrease of E values were found in case group (partial regression coefficient < zero, odds ratio=0.365). Negative stimulus and life stimulus in case group were more than those in control group(P<0.05). A significant increase of negative stimulus was found in case group (partial regression coefficient > zero, odds ratio=1.101). Odd ratio of mental disorders history was 56.551 (partial regression coefficient > zero), odd ratio of economy status was 1.000 (partial regression coefficient > zero). The P values, L values of male and female and positive events in two groups were no significant different (P>0.05) .Conclusions Unstable emotion, introverted personality, negative stimulus and life stimulus may be crucial for the development of depression in patients with subacute stroke. Mental disorders history, poor economy status, unstable emotion and negative stimulus are risk factors of PSD prevalence, while extroverted personality are protect factor of PSD prevalence.
