A Study On Mental Health, Personality And Psychological Needs Of Patients With Chronic Prostatitis In Some Hospitals Of Shaoyang City

Objective:To investigate the personality and psychological characteristics of patients with chronic prostatitis in Shaoyang city,and analyze their psychological needs in order to provide a scientific basis for effective nursing intervention.Methods:According to the unified standard of exclusion and inclusion, cluster sampling method is used and patients already diagnosed with chronic prostatitis in the two hospitals above GradeⅡin Shaoyang city are taken randomly as subjects in the survey.The questionnaire includes general information and EPQ(EPQ),SCL(SCL-90),self-made questionnaire about psychological needs of patient with chronic prostatitis.Statistical analysis of the data is taken by means of the Statistical Package for Social Science(SPSS) 13.0, which embraces descriptive analysis,independent-samples t Test,analysis of variance,Pearson correlation analysis,x~2 Test and multiple stepwise regression.Results:In the survey,202 questionnaires were distributed and 186 effective records were collected(effective rate:88.6%).1.The mental health of patients with chronic prostatitis is poor,and comparing with domestic norm,subitems in SCL-90,like somatization, depression,anxiety,paranoia,mental illness and the number of positive items are significantly higher.The high incidence of psychosomatic symptoms exists the patients with one of the following circumstances:monthly income＜800 yuan,the course of disease＞2 years,the number of patients＞5 times,local and systemic symptoms simultaneously,the difference was statistically significant.2.Compare EPQ of chronic prostatitis patients with domestic norm and find that scores of introvision and extrovision(E),neuroticism(N), Psychoticism(P) are quite different(P＜0.01),while scores of lie(L) have no significant difference.There is a significant correlation between EPQ and mental health.3.Total score of psychological needs of patients with chronic prostatitis is 60.26±6.91.The top 5 are:sex guide,disease prevention,psychological guidance of a doctor,spouse support,repeatedly intractable diseases.4.The difference among the scores of psychological needs of these patients with different ages,education backgrounds,courses of disease,symptoms of disease is statistically significant.Conclusion:1.The mental health of patients with chronic prostatitis is poor,and partner relations,sexual satisfaction,psychological state of self-assessment and symptoms of the disease is main factors.2.Patients with chronic prostatitis are introvert with a dual tendency of neuroticismi and psychoticism.They have obvious psychological problems, among which somatization,depression,anxiety,paranoia,mental illness are most evident.3.The main psychological needs of patients with chronic prostatitis are sex guide,disease prevention,psychological guidance of a doctor,spouse support, and repeatedly intractable diseases4.The most important subjects of nursing intervention are the patients with following features:aged 30 to 40,an above-bachelor degree,a 1-2 years' course of disease,with both local symptom and general symptom,all of which should be considered during the process of nursing.
