Jaw deformity of facial appearance effect significantly. Because of the poor facial shape and appearance caused by maxillofacial deformity, the personality characteristics and psychological state of many patients have been great influenced. Many studies suggest that personality characteristics and psychological state of patients with jaw deformity are different from normal persons. Orthognathic operation is an effective way to correct jaw deformity. Through operation, it is not only the defect of physiognomy of patient can be changed, but also some bad personal character features of patients can to be improved. The mental health level of patients can also be improved through operation is also become the pursuit of orthognathic surgeons. However, how to make patients to understand the limitations of orthognathic operation through correct method, while allowing patients to establish the trust to orthognathic surgeons and to establish reasonable preoperative expectations? This requires orthognathic surgeons to make a clear understanding on the patients'psychological state and personality characteristics, and to have a deeper understanding on the relationship between social psychology, personality, social identity factors and operation effect. More and more researches find that patients' satisfaction on the result of the operation is affected by many factors, including the patient's own personality characteristics and psychological dimensions. Under this background, study on the relationship between the mental health of the patients, personal characteristics, social factors and orthognathic operation effect is more and more important. Through a questionnaire survey, we analysed the personality characteristics of patients underwent orthognathic surgery, their psychological dimension and the influence mechanism of these factors to treatment satisfaction.Part1of ResearchEPQ of Patients Underwent Orthognathic Surgical Operation and Analysis of Related Factors[Abstract] Objective To analyze the characteristics of personality of patients underwent orthognathic operation, and to explore the associated factors. To provide reference for clinical. Methods165cases of patients were collected. All patients underwent orthognathic operation treatment in Stomatological Hospital of Wuhan University from Jan2011to May2014, including98male cases,67female cases. Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ) was used to investigate the personality characteristics of patients underwent orthognathic operation.123healthy volunteers without jaw deformity were collected for compare. To explore the relationship between personality characteristics and different physiological and social environment factors. Results EPQ scores of patients with Jaw deformity were different with healthy volunteers on two latitudes of Extraversion (E) and Psychoticism (P). Among patients with different gender, only Extraversion (E) has significant difference. The Extraversion (E) score of patients in city were higher than that of rural patients, while the Lie (L) scores of rural patients were the highest. The Extraversion (E) score of patients with good family economic conditions is higher than the patient with poor family economic conditions, and its Lie (L) score is also lower. Conclusion The personality characteristics of patients underwent orthognathic operation exist certain difference between different gender, family economic conditions and origin. Surgeons should distinguish the particularity of each patient and improve the operation therapeutic effect through psychological health education and communication.Part2of ResearchAnalysis of Personality Traits and Psychological Dimensions of Patients Underwent Orthognathic Operation and the Influence on Post-operative SatisfactionObjective To analyse the personality traits and psychological dimensions of patients underwent orthognathic operation and the influence on post-operative satisfaction. Methods135cases of patients including74male cases and61female cases underwent orthognathic operation treatment were collected from Jan2011to May2014in the Stomatological Hospital of Wuhan University. Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ) and symptom checklist90(SCL-90) were used to investigate the personality characteristics and mental health status of the patients underwent operation. Kiyak satisfaction standards were consulted to draw up orthognathic operation satisfaction questionnaire. The postoperative satisfaction was investigated. The relationship between personality traits, psychological status and satisfaction after operation was analysed. Results In our study, the scores of interpersonal relationship, depression, sensitivity analysis of paranoid were higher than normal; Patients of young, male and with higher level mental health were more satisfied with operation results compared with patients of old, female and with lower mental health level; The satisfaction of patients with extrovert personality was higher than that of patients with introvert personality. Patients with stable emotion were more satisfied with operation result compared with patients with unstable emotion.Conclusion Personality, mental health level, gender, age were all associated with patients satisfaction with operation.
