Background Clinical nutrition support is the development of the twenty-first century medicine, one of the significant progress, modern medicine has become an important component of the job, its clinical role, has been of great importance to the medical profession. Reasonable food and nutrient intake and disease prevention, treatment and rehabilitation are closely related. Nurses, as health care for the main provider, in the observation of disease, identify risks and improve patient nutrition plays a very important role.Objective The study aimed at understanding the cognitive status of clinical nursing nutritional KAP of Medical wards and surgical wards of three-level general hospital of Taiyuan, analyze the major factors of the impact on cognitive of clinical nursing nutritional KAP, put forward some reasonable proposals to improve the cognitive of clinical nursing nutritional KAP, and promote the rapid development of clinical nutrition and improve the quality of medical care.Methods This questionnaire was composed of two parts: the quoted contents of the questionnaire were accurately translated into Chinese; referring to related literatures and with the help of three nutritional experts in Shanxi Province People's Hospital, the first draft of the questionnaire was made. Using simple random sampling method, with the inclusion criteria, three in four three-lever general hospitals of the 1100 hospital nursing staff conduct on-site survey. The formal questionnaire was made after the pre-test, and 986 questionnaires were input to database and analyzed.Results (1)The cognitive scores of nutritional nurses'KAP was normal distribution by normal distribution test. (2)By t-test, there were statistical significance of cognitive scores of clinical nursing nutritional KAP between head nurses and nurses, nurses on responsibility and nurses on non-responsibility ,nurses who carry out the Holistic nursing philosophy and nurses who do not, outstanding nurses and general nurses, nurses who participate in seminars and lectures and nurses who do not, nurses who examined by managers regularly and nurses who do not. There was no marked difference by t-test between different working departments, gender, night shift and day shift ect. (3)By analysis of variance , there were statistical significance of cognitive scores of clinical nursing nutritional KAP among nurses of different high level of education, formal nurses and other temporarily hired nurses. There was no marked difference by analysis of variance among ones with different ages,different initial education,different monthly income,different operational frequency of learning ect. (4)correlation analysis There existed obviously positive correlation between the scores of nutrition knowledge (K), nutrition attitude (A), nutrition practice(P), and the overall nutritional knowledge (KAP). The correlation coefficient r, respectively: 0.818, 0.520, 0.610 (P <0.01). (5)multiple linear stepwise regression analysis The scores of clinical nursing nutritional KAP cognitive are mainly related to manager regularly monitor, the highest lever of education and position .Conclusion (1)The survey indicated that the cognitive of clinical nursing nutritional KAP was in the general level. Though nurses have better nutritional attitude, their nutritional knowledge and practice should be further improved and enhanced. (2) The mainly factors which impact on the cognitive of clinical nursing nutritional KAP scores were the manager regularly monitor, the highest lever of education and position. (3) According to the main factors which influenced on the cognitive of clinical nursing nutritional KAP ,hospitals should pay high attention to the professional development of clinical nurses, and create opportunities to help them to be succeed. Such as increasing the funds of clinical nurses to attend nutrition classes, taking nutritional knowledge seminars regularly and so on; At the same time, managers should also increase the supervision and inspection mechanisms on nutritional situation of patients, and establish reasonable and effective evaluation method of performance.
