ObjectTo study the special characteristics of the acupoints for treating the pain of cervical spondylosis with acupuncture, and to find out the regulation of treating the pain of cervical spondylosis with acupuncture.MethodsNinety cases with neck pain due to cervical spondylosis were recruited from the acupuncture out-patient of Guangdong Provincial Hospital of TCM. By using simple random method, participants are distributed into the basic group, treatment group and control group, with 30 cases in each group. In the basic group, Dazhui(DU14) and Bailao(EX-HN15, bilateral) are selected.Compared to the basic group, the treatment group adds Zhongzhu(SJ3) while the control group adds Houxi(SI3). Each group received nine times' treatment with the frequency every other day, three times per week. Patients will evaluated by NPQ and McGill after the treatment. Using T test for the statistical analysis to compare the therapeutic differences before and after the treatment, ANOVA for the statistical analysis to compare the difference between groups. At the same time, in order to compare the pain points difference between acupuncture Zhongzhu(SJ3) and Houxi(SI3),the recruitment of 40 volunteers were randomly assigned to the bank of the Zhongzhu group and Houxi group, as 20 cases in each group. In the Zhongzhu group, Zhongzhu(SJ3) was selected to be acupunctured while Houxi(SI3) was selected for the other group. After one time's acupuncture, volunteers will evaluated the differences of pain by Visual Analogue Score (VAS) between the two groups. Using T test to compare the difference between groups. Results 1,After one treatment course, the total effective rates of three groups were 82. 76%,96. 55% and 92. 00%. By rank-sum test, the overall effects of three groups have no significance(P>0. 05). The markedly effective rates of three groups were48. 27%,68. 97% and 72. 00%, by Chi-square test, the three groups have no significance (P>0.05).2,After one treatment course,NPQ scores and Mcgill Scale scores both declined significantly in the 3 graoups(P<0,05), means these 3 groups of treatment are all effective for neck pain due to cervical spondylosis.3,As after one treatment course, NPQ scores and Mcgill Scale scores of the therapeutic group and controll group are significantly different from that of the basic group (P<0. 05), which means therapeutic effect of the treatment group and controll group are better than that of the basic group. However, NPQ scores and Mcgill Scale scores between the therapeutic group and the controll group have no significance (P>0. 05), the therapeutic effect of the therapeutic group and the controll group are the same.4,In comparing the acupuncture pain between Zhongzhu(SJ3) and Houxi(SI3), the VAS pain score of Zhongzhu Group is lower than Houxi group, the difference has significance(P<0. 05).ConclusionPuncturing Zhongzhu and Houxi acupoint can both improve the clinical symptoms of the patients with neck pain due to cervical spondylosis, they both have better efficacy and safety. However, when judging from the implementation of clinical treatment, the pain reaction of puncturing Zhongzhu is much more lightly than when puncturing Houxi, which prrhaps will be more acceptable by the patients and worthly of the clincal promotion and applications.
