Leaf of Cherokee Rose. is the leaf of Rosa laevigata Michx. in Rosaceae. It was recorded in"Yong Lei Ling Fang"for the first time. It also has some other names such as Tang Ying Wei. As a traditional chinese medicine, It is widely distributed in the east, middle-south and southwest of China. It was recorded in"Compendium of Materia Medica"that the mashed leaves of Rosa laevigata Michx. with some salt was able to treat ulcerative carbuncle. In the"East Fujian Materia Medica", the dried powder Leaf of Rosa laevigata Michx. was recorded to cure burn and scald when used together with benne oil. Researchers from all over the world have separated many kinds of compounds from the fruit of Rosa laevigata Michx. such as steroids, terpenes, tannins, saponins and carbohydrates, However, there is only one literature about the chemical constituents from leaves of Rosa laevigata Michx. Many kinds of tannins had been discovered from Leaf of Rosa laevigata Michx. including procyanidin B-3, pedunculagin, potentillin, agrimonicacid A, agrimoniin, laevigatin C, catechin and casuarictin.By means of column chromatographic Silica gel, ODS, Sephadex LH-20, HPLC and so on, the investigation on the chemical constituents of the petroleum ether extracts of Leaf of Cherokee Rose. had resulted in the isolation and structure elucidation of Eighteen compounds named. linolenic acid glyceride(1), linoleic acid glyceride(2), linoleic acid(3), phytol(4), ursolic acid(5),β-sitosterol(6),apigenin(7),oleanolic acid(8),euscaphic acid(9),daucosterol(10),rosamultin(11),arjunic acid(12),kaempferol(13),corosolic acid(14),maslinic acid(15),tomentic acid(16),2α-hydroxyursolic acid(17),2β, 3β, 19α- trihydroxyurs-12-ene-28-oic acid(18).Among them, compound 1 was isolated from the natural world for the first time. Compound 2~4 was isolated from this plant for the first time. Compound 5~18 was isolated from the leaves of this plant for the first time.
