OBJICT: To analyze the clinical features and electronic laryngoscopic images of sulcus vocalis for exploring the clinical features of vocal sulcus;addressing its classification and diagnosis; improving the treatment and prevention of vocal sulcus.METHODS:Clinical data including endoscopic images, diagnose and treatments of 7567 patients with throat disease and 54 patients with sulcus vocalis were collected and retrospectively analyzed.RESULTS:We found 54 cases of sulcus vocalis from 7567 patients of throat disease, detection rate is 0.7%. 38 of 54 (70%) sulcus patients were male,18 cases were aged between 18 to 45 years old. The average age of onset was 33-years-old. 41 of 54 (76%) were presented as hoarseness. The average duration of hoarseness was 3 years, lasted for 7 days to 20 years. 13 cases (24%) were physiological (typeâ… ). 41 cases were pathological, among these 41 patients, 31 cases (57%) were typeâ…¡,10 cases (19%)were typeâ…¢. Electronic laryngoscopic images clearly showed 42(78%) cases of bilateral vocal cord groove, 12 cases of single vocal cord groove(22%). 46 cases showed a longitudinal sulcus,10 cases showed a local depression, 7 cases showed a good glottic closure (13%); 30 cases showed a spindle-like cleft(56%); 17 cases showed a mild spindle-like cleft(31%). There were 32 cases with throat disease (59%).CONCLUTIONS: 1. 54 cases of sulcus vocalis in 7567 cases of throat disease were examined by the electronic laryngoscope, detection rate is 0.7%, electronic laryngoscopic image was very helpful on making correct diagnosis and classification.2. Young males are the most common population of sulcus vocalis. 3. Bilateral(46%) and typeâ…¡(57%) sulcus vocalis are more common. 4. The most common image finding of sulcus vocalis are bilateral longitudinal sulcus. 5 A history of throat disease might relative to sulcus vocalis.
