Background:Premenstrual syndrome(PMS) is a collection of physical, psychological and emotional symptoms related to a woman' s menstrual cycle. PMS symptoms include mood swings, insomnia, increased irritability, headache, tenderness of the breasts, bloated feeling, constipation, diarrhea, and more. These symptoms can begin anytime after ovulation and during menses, and should disappear rapidly once menstruation begins.Studies show that about 90%of all women suffer from PMS.Many treatments have been suggested for PMS, including diet or lifestyle changes.Medical interventions are primarily concerned with hormonal intervention and use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. However, uptake of these medications can cause side-effects and may affect the overall result. Objective:To investigate the curative effect of taking Lizhong concoction in the treatment of diarrhea of the spleen deficient syndrome associated with PMS.Method:A total of sixty patients diagnosed with diarrhea associated with PMS were randomly divided into 3 groups.Treatment group took Lizhong concoction, control group 1 used moxibustion for treatment, and control group 2 used a combination of Lizhong concoction plus moxibustion.Results:1.After treatment, the treatment group had results that were significantly better than that of control group 1,p<0.05).However,when compared with control group 2,their results were not significantly different(p>0.05). 2.After two courses of treatment, the treatment group composed of 10 clinically recovered patients,6 very effective patients,2 effective patients and 2 ineffectvie patients;the total effective rate was 90.0%.Control group 1 was composed of 7 clinically recovered patients,6 very effective patients, 2 effective patients and 5 ineffectvie patients;the total effective rate was 75.5%.Control group 2 was composed of 11 clinically recovered patients,4 very effective patients,3 effective patients and 2 ineffectvie patients;the total effective rate was 90.0%.The treatment group and control group 1 compared results, and found that treatment group' s improvements were statistically better than the control group one(p<0.05).The treatment group when compared with control group 2,the results were not statistically significant(p<0.05).Conclusions:It is effective in treating Lizhong concoction in PMS diarrhea with spleen deficient syndrome.
