Influence Of Health Education On Quality Of Life Of Patients With Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a disease of having serious visual function changes, most patients need to be operated or taking drugs therapeutic efficacy is affected by many factors. Visual function is seriously damaged by glaucoma, their means of communication have decreased. Meanwhile, glaucoma brings the patients un convenience of living and influence their normal activities, patients with glaucoma always emerge psychological changes and emotional reaction as anxiety, depress and despair. The psychological reactions result in patients descending of quality of life. To raise quality of life of patients with glaucoma, besides therapentic tool should be impoved constantly, psychological support should be thought highly of. Till now, studies on quality of life for patients with glaucoma only include some overviews and general surveys on influence factors. It is meaningful to research the charactors of quality of life of patients with glaucoma in order to raise quality of life.The research of survival quality of glaucoma patient is a particular case in the domain of survival quality in ophthalmology. The visual related survival quality measuring indicator is more sensitive than any other general health measuring indicators. To measure the survival quality of glaucoma patients with visual field defect may assist to understand the treatment outcome of glaucoma. A systematic health education may improve the patients'understanding and attitude about glaucoma. Patients should learn that the glaucoma is a disease could not cure. But it can be controlled by obeying the doctor's advice, taking medicine reasonably, making a regular living, having a reasonable diet, maintaining a happy mood, enhancing the self-protect consciousness and developing a good living habit. According the health education between the doctors and patients or the nurses and patients will help to maintain the harmony relationship and improve the compliance.Objective:Health education is part of the whole tend and protect. According to the well organized education course, patients and their family numbers will learn more knowledge of health improvement. Psychology interview to glaucoma patients would affect to visual related survival quality in patient.Methods: Glaucoma patients diagnosised during 2007.10～2008.5 in the second hospital of Jilin university were divided into two groups according to random table. Routine nursing care was performed in control group while routine nursing care and health education were performed in treatment group. Health education was carried out by experienced nurses by oral explaining related knowledge, booklet or some other medias. The quality of life scale of eye diseases with visual functional lesion were used to assess the patients on the admission day ,one week after, two weeks after and two months after admission. There is no obvious different between the two groups on patient's ages, sexes, eduction back grounds and ecnomic incomes.Results: (1)Descending of life quality existed in both groups when they were recruited and before treated. (2) There were no significant differences in the scores of the quality of life scale between the two groups before treated(P >0.05). There were significant differences in the scores of the quality of life between the two groups at every time point after treated(P<0.01),and patients in the group who received health education scaled better. Patients in the group who received health education scaled better especially at aspect of mind psychological and social activities in the quality of life scale(P<0.05) after health education; there were no differences in the scores of aspects of symptom and vision function and body function(P >0.05) .From the frist week after education ,health education group scaled better than control group in aspect of mind psychological. Health education can improve quality of glaucoma patients'life(P<0.05). From the second week after education ,health education group scaled better than control group in aspect of social activities (P<0.05). Change amplitude of life quality has no relationship with age, sex and ecnomic incomes but has relationship with eduction back grounds, the relation index between change amplitude of life quality and eduction background was differently higher in health education than control group(P<0.05). Conclusions: By correct health education, the visual related survival quality of glaucoma patients can be improved significantly. Positive effect may be got about the cure and survival of patients. The effect of health education is related with the level of patient's education. The higher the education level, the better the acceptation, comprehension and therapy effect.
