Objective:To assess the correlation between the clinical manifestation and X-ray imaging through quantized evaluation of the clinical manifestation and X-ray in osteoarthritis patients in the knees. Methods:A total of 81 knees in 49 patients with knee OA was recruited randomly according to the diagnostic criteria. All the knees were assessed of their clinical and X-ray manifestation.Through the investigation survey and Lequesne MG,the clinical manifestation of the patients were classified to five grades.Patients with knee OA Photographed antero-posterior(AP) and lateral CR meanwhile, and they were classified to five grades by the X-ray according to Kellgren-Lawrence(K/L) scoring system. The CR records were read by photoshop, and joint space(including exterior and interior tibia- femur mesooecium and patella- femur mesooecium) and osteophyte length were measured. The samples were grouped by clinical scale. The correlation of the clinical manifestation,X-ray classification, joint space and osteophyte length was evaluated by Spearman correlation.Kruskal-Wallis H was used to infer whether there were differences between joint space and osteophyte length or not.Results:1.According to Lequesne integrate, clinical scale in 10 patients were in grade 1,12 in grade 2,14 in grade 3,7 in grade 4,6 in grade 5.mean age in the 5 grades were 44.8,51.8,53.2,55.7,60.5 years. There were difference through statistics analysis(t=-4.47,p=0.00).In 81 sick knees there were 10 in grade 1,24 in grade 2,21 in grade 3,14 in grade 4 and 6 in grade 5 Kellgren-Lawrence(K/L).Coincidence degree between grade 2,3,4 and 5 in X-ray grades and clinical scale were 31.3%,27.5%,27.8%and 69.2%.2.Clinical scales were positive correlated to osteophyte length(inner tibia- femur mesooecium,r=0.756,p<0.001;lateral tibia-femur mesooecium,r=0.746,p<0.001;patella- femur mesooecium,r=0.671, p<0.001).3.Clinical scales were positive correlated to index of osteophyte scabrosity(inner tibia- femur mesooecium,r=0.903,p<0.001;lateral tibia- femur mesooecium,r=0.814,p<0.001;patella- femur mesooecium,r=0.804, p<0.001).4.Clinical scales were negative correlated to stenosis degree of joint space in groups above(inner tibia-femur mesooecium, r=-0.477,lateral tibia- femur mesooecium,r=-0.321,patella- femur mesooecium,r =-0.532,p<0.001).Conclusion:1.The clinical scales of knee OA was associate with osteophyte length and joint space separately, especially with the osteophyte length in inner/lateral tibia- femur, inner tibia- femur mesooecium and patella- femur mesooecium.2.The coincidence rate of the clinical scales and X-ray grading was higher in the severe stage.
