The Survey On Knowledge, Attitude And Practice About Infant Touch Among The Parents Of Infants Within 1 Year Old In Yuelu District Changsha City

Objective:To demonstrate the knowledge,attitude and practice of infant touch among the parents of infants within 1 year old in Yuelu district Changsha city and analyze the reasons impacting theses issues to ascertain the time and contents in health education.Methods:The proposed project is using random sampling,based on the random selection of 340 parents in 5 preventive health cares in Yuelu district Changsha city.Our research objects are the selected parents who are questioned by two self-design questionnaire papers named as "Family General Information Survey" and "Infant Touch Knowledge Survey".In this project,we established data base and analyze statistic results by SPSS11.5.The statistic methodology in application includes Description statistic analysis,^x2tests,Wilcoxon rank sum test,Kruskal-Wallis H test,Pearson correlation,Logistic regression.Results:1.Infant touch status:The survey shows the percentage of infant touch done at home is 56.4%and the percentage of infant touch done at home everyday is 10.4%.The percentage of mathers as the main actor who do infant touch on babies is 47.5%.Only 32%fathers have taken part in infant touch.2.Parents' scores on knowledge,attitude and behavior of infant touch: Average score on infant touch knowledge is 46.34,while average attitude score is 67.91,and behavior score is 44.68.The knowledge which are known less than 60%by infants'parents are:target of infant touch(39.9%),benefits of infant touch(13.7%),temperature for infant touch(57.6%),time of infant touch (51.8%),frequency of infant touch(41.5%),duration of infant touch(31.7%), massage method before the umbilical callus shedding(50.6%),direction of abdominal massage(51.8%),key points of infant touch(46.6%)。The most positive attitude to infant touch are:role of infant touch(24.7%),will to do infant touch at home(45.7%),will to do infant touch by themselves(32.3%), will to get knowledge about infant touch(37.5%)。The behaviors which are correct less than 60%in survey are:number of infant touch(8.5%),beginning of the period(48.2%),time of infant touch(35.4%),frequency of infant touch (10.1%),duration of infant touch(15.2%),music(38.7%),smiling,language (57%),location of infant touch(38.4%)。3.The factors impacting parents' knowledge,attitude about infant touch. The factors affecting their knowledge about infant touch are:identity of parents, age of parents,the education level of mothers,the per capita monthly income of families,zone,and the age of babies.The factors affecting their attitude about infant touch are:identity of parents and the per capita monthly income of families.Mothers have more knowledge and more positive attitude about infant touch than fathers.The higher per capita monthly income they have,the more knowledge and more positive attitude they have.The older parents are,the more knowledge they get.The higher education level mothers have,the more knowledge they have.The parents in city have more knowledge than the parents in rural.With increase of infants' age,parents tend to have more knowledge about infant touch. 4.The correlation among parents' knowledge,attitude and behavior on infant touch:By Pearson correlation analysis,they have positive correlation.The correlation between knowledge and behavior is 0.588.The correlation between attitude and behavior is 0.490.The correlation between knowledge and attitude is 0.221.5.Access to knowledge of infant touch:Only 12.2%parents acquired knowledge related to infant touch from cimmunity and more that 36.6%parents are willing to know more about infant touch from community activities.Conclusions:The percentage of infant touch done at home is 56.4%and the percentage of infant touch done at home everyday is 10.4%.Average score on infant touch knowledge is 46.34,while average attitude score is 67.91,and behavior score is 44.68.The factors affecting their level about infant touch are:identity of parents, age of parents,the education level of mothers,the per capita monthly income of families,zone,and the age of babies.The knowledge,attitude and behavior about infant touch have positive correlation.Community health staff should strengthen drumbeating of infant touch and educate people according to related factors,pay more attention to parents' knowledge and attitude in order to develop infant touch in community,regulate parents' behaviors of infant touch and increase the effect of infant touch.
